Dell’s Web 2.O - Focus of SMC Austin Meeting
Dell’s masterful handling of Web 2.0 will be the focus of tonight’s meeting of the Social Media Club of Austin. John Pope, Caroline Dietz and Lionel Menchaca are slated to talk about Dell’s state-of-the-art handling of Web 2.0 Personality Spaces.
With direct involvement by Michael Dell himself; Lionel, Caroline, John and the team at Dell are showing how a large company can deal with the latest trends in social media and, as a result, enhance consumer relations. I recently came across a post on the SmoothSpan site which made a really nice case for what they’re up to at Dell.
The participatory tools provided by Dell, with a brief and accurate descriptor, include:
- Forums: Share with other Dell customers
- Studio Dell: Videos
- Direct2Dell: Visit the Dell Blog
- IdeaStorm: Where Your Ideas Reign
As SmoothSpan points out, “this is the Web 2.0. It is not about Shouting your message at prospects. It’s about involving them in a collaboration that benefits both parties. Dell does a good job providing lots of tools for everyone to play with in terms of establishing that dialog and making sure it’s 2-way.”
We’re very fortunate to have Dell right here in Central Texas, leading the way in social media. Please join us tonight at the BMC Software, Inc. Austin campus to hear our friends from Dell tell us more about the story they are writing, with their customers, in Web 2.0.

Thanks for the kind mention of my site!
I think Web 2.0 presents a tremendous opportunity for business, but I’m amazed at how few businesses are really hooking up the way Dell has. I can only assume they just don’t understand what to do yet, so companies like Dell will have to set the standard.
Best Regards,
Bob Warfield
