Power Up Austin Luncheon: Mobile Madness

In partnership with ATC, Forbes will produce Power Up Austin, a roundtable series of luncheons, each of which will bring Austin’s best and brightest business and technology leaders together to discuss and promote Austin’s emerging technology sectors. Each event will be hosted by a Forbes editor and technology expert. Austin’s technology leaders will share ideas on the business-critical needs of CEO’s and their executive teams, how to build domestic and global business alliances and best practices for enhancing business operations, amoung other topics. First session: Wireless - Mobile Madness.

AT&T’s CEO Randall Stephenson has noted that “the more wireless you become, the more wired you are.” Just as the communication pipes are getting fatter and faster, the handsets are getting smaller and smarter, and investment opportunities are ripe for the making. Over 2 billion people are projected to be on the Internet within the next decade—most of them will be getting online first with a mobile device. Which networks will gain the sway to serve them—or will Wi-Fi render cellular networks obsolete? Is mobile the new advertising medium of the future? What business models will drive the adoption of mobile entertainment products? And as Apple continues to make headlines, do other mobile distribution models actually offer greater value to users and operators?
